His school (special class in local public school) officially started the week before but we came back from California the day before the start date. Due to jet-lag and need for updated immunization record he went back to school the week after his original date- which was last Thursday.
I scheduled his homeschool to begin on Monday but little I knew, I came back to an unresponsive computer. I had so much printing and prep to do but I had to bring my computer in to get it fixed. Long story short, my computer is up and running and we finally finished the 1st week
We are doing 3 subjects this semester: Language, Math and Science
(I'm planning to add Geography / History towards the end of the year)
++ Sweet Boy [48M] ++
Language:
READING THE ALPHABETS
We are doing This Reading Mama's Reading the Alphabets this year. (It was included in this year's Homeschool Omnibus.)
This week's letter was (F) and the sight word is (A).
This is his school setup. We are doing the school in the corner of the living room. We NEVER use the fireplace so I decided to hang the pocket chart over it.
I used the commando hooks which are removable. The table is right against it so Happy Girl doesn't get easy access to it.
Sweet Boy loves the pocket chart. I guess it reminds him of the 'real' school.
The first time we did a lesson, he asked me to buy the pointer with finger on it- I guess his teacher uses it in her class. :D

"Mom, I can do this with my eyes closed." |
He got the hang of patterning. First one was little difficult for him but he is getting better.
This pattern activity (part of the Reading the Alphabet) is also a cutting practice activity.
I cut the long strips and Sweet Boy cut them in pieces.
The 'sentence awareness activity' is my favorite.
He had to draw a turtle and glue the words in order. I LOVE how he drew his turtle. *o*
On the last day, he matched the picture to the word.
We read the pocket book together and I made him find the matching words.
He doesn't recognize the words from this lesson yet but he is reading several sight words!
Along with Reading the Alphabets, he also watches and matches the preschool prep DVD and flash cards.
I was playing with him and noticed that he reads many of the sight words he has seen on the DVD.
Some of the words he reads are: ON, ARE, TO, GO, THEY and few more.
We did the syllable counting activity but he has no idea what is going on.
Saying the words, clapping at each syllable, counting how many claps there were are bit challenging for him to do. Especially when he has no idea why we are even clapping.
I might put off the activity for later.
On another note, this is how I organized the curriculum.
I printed each week's lesson plan and put it in the sleeve on the left side and all the other printables and materials on the right side of a pre-bound portfolio. I see that many people use sheet protectors in regular 3-ring binder but I had so many of these portfolios on hand from my art school years and I actually like these more for their compact size. One complain I have is that I can't add more pages. However, as I am writing this post, I remember removing and adding pages to one of these bound portfolios so I will have to dig through the 'art school' closet.
Other subjects:
MATH:
2Gabe / Math Start Book : 'Circus Shapes' (Posting coming up tomorrow)
SCIENCE:
Magnet (Posting coming up this week)
Sweet Boy LOVES 'playing' school with me. It's bit difficult to do with Happy Girl around but we are doing good so far. We usually do about 30 minutes a day and I think it's just enough time to 'after-school' a preschooler. I love seeing other home schooling and after schooling moms' blogs and I hope that someone finds interest out of my everyday journal as well. :)
