There was a short list of requirements to be 'the perfect lunch bag':
- It must be an 'upright' bag where both the handle and the opening are up on the top so the food would always stay in place.
- It has to be wide enough for her lunch container (we are using lunch blox this year).
- It must be CUTE!
After extensive research, I decided to get the Packit Freezable lunch bag.
There are so many patterns but I got the pattern called 'Bounce',
This is because I wasn't sure which backpack Happy Girl would have at the time I ordered but figured it will fall in the similar color scheme. (Yes... I have to match color...)
It's regularly $19.99 on Amazon. However, I saw it on Zulily and I was ordering bunch of stuff for Sweet Boy's birthday so I threw it in there as well. I believe it was about $15.
After what seemed like forever (and two days after Happy Girl started school) it arrived!
... and let me tell you something... I thought I ordered two!
The plastic bag it came in was so heavy!
In case you are not familiar with the PackIt Freezable lunch bags, they have insulation built within the bag so it folds neatly and goes in your freezer. You don't need extra ice bag for it.
This, of course I didn't think of before, adds weight to the bag itself.
Whether you have frozen it or not, the insulation is in the bag. ALL THE TIME.
This is why I decided to write a post about it because.. if there is anyone like me... you wouldn't think about the actual weight of the bag. So there you go. I said it. It's heavy!
Otherwise, it's PERFECT for our need.
It opens on the top so kids would carry it the right way up. (Last thing I want is to have all the lunch food mingled together or sandwich fold in half.)
And the lunch blox fit perfectly! There is also little room on the side after I put in the lunch blox so I can put the water bottle as well.
I also found out that this specific model is one of the collaborated design with a company called 'French Bull'. That's why there is little rubber tag around the handle shaped like a french bull.
The weight threw me off a little but it's fine now. The size is nice and I like everything about it (except the weight, of course). I froze the bag overnight and it was still cool 6 hours after I took it out.
I wish it had little less ice packs (perhaps just 1 or 2 panels instead of 3?)... but I like it so much that I might even get one for Sweet Boy. :)
